How to get a smaller glass unstuck from of a larger glass

It may be hard to tell, but there is a smaller glass stuck inside of a larger glass. Our solution: Fill the inner glass with ice and stick the larger glass in hot water.
After a few minutes, it worked!

  1. Doing it the other way around also gets the the glasses apart.

  2. hmm ... I wouldn't think so. You mean hot water inside and cold water outside? wouldn't that make them more stuck?

    1. Temporarily, yes. But then the glasses would come apart from the strain. Apart into millions of tiny, sharp, fragments.

  3. How do you say "I have removed it!!" in Ancient Greek?

  4. I would think that your solution would have also resulted in as notElon said so well, "millions of tiny, sharp, fragments". I guess your glasses must be made of strong stuff.

  5. Actually, I was concerned about shattering them as well. But that is why I brought them up to their temperatures gradually.

  6. And had there been any water in between the two glasses (which might have been the reason they were stuck) and that water had got up to boiling over that burner, you might have had a nice little explosion of millions of tiny, sharp, fragments.

  7. Is "millions of tiny, sharp fragments" a new catchphrase?
